| Customer Reviews:
Works most of the time December 23, 2008 The router works fine most of the time, trying to enable the dual radios (BG+N or N+N) will usually kill it because of the overheat, requiring a reboot. USB storage works fine and has good ways to get the files (SMB/FTP, plus uPnP media server), I miss the HTTP for file and DAAP for media but, overall works reliably. This hardware is currently not supported for DD-WRT. If I was to choose today, I would get the Asus WL-500W unless there is a need for Gigabit interfaces.
Works as Advertized December 22, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with the WRT610N. It just works as exected right out of the box.
Worst Router Ever December 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used to use a net gear router before I bought this and now I wish I never changed. At least 2 times a day I have to reset the linksys router in order to connect to my network. I've called linksys customer service a couple times to get this problem resolved and all they can tell me is "Try a different channel" I never had connection problems with the net gear and will be switching back. The only problem now is that I have a $180.00 pile of garbage that I have ot get rid of.
Incredibly unreliable!! December 17, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've owned this router for less than 24 hours, and I've already decided to ship it back to Amazon.
I'm struggling with FREQUENT and spontaneous disconnects. The router simply CANNOT stay connected to ANY of my machines. The two main machines that I've been using have EACH been disconnected over a dozen times in the past 24 hours.
This isn't a distance/physical-obstruction issue. I'm in a one-story apartment with thin walls and a lot of open space. The machines that connect to this router are at most TWELVE FEET AWAY - and there's almost a clean line of sight to the router!
This also isn't an OS or network adapter issue. I'm experiencing the same results on four different machines (a Dell Studio Slim Desktop running x86 Vista; an HP dv9700 notebook running x64 Vista; an HP zd8000 notebook running XP; and an old Dell Inspiron notebook running XP.) All four machines have different brands and models of network adapters. The only common thread is the router.
This also isn't a configuration issue. I followed the instructions to a T, even going so far as to run Linksys's "easy setup" utility (rather than just busting into 192.168.0.1 and configuring it myself.) It's running a pretty vanilla router configuration with WPA. And according to the Linksys website, I'm running the latest firmware.
And it's not just me! A Google search for "WRT610N disconnects" turns up hundreds of forum posts by other users experiencing the same exact issue. The best advice is to ENTIRELY SHUT DOWN the 5GHz band... thereby invalidating the ONLY feature that distinguishes this router from other 802.11N that are $100 cheaper and more reliable.
Bottom line: DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. IT IS DOA, RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.
Despite all the bad reviews... December 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I decided to give it a try. I have tested most of its features and I am overall veri satisfied with this product. Pros: - USB connection to hard disk. Speed is good. - Web interface works fine. Simple web interface. No need for a user manual. - FTP server to access data through the internet. Cons: - Media Server feature is a great when it works. I found it unstable. It uses a version of Twonky media. I believe it will be fixed in the next firmware release. Most of the problems were solved by power cycling the router and rebooting the media client. - I use 2 NTFS partitions of 500M each. Creating folders through the web interface can cause few problems. These problems were easily fixed by plugging the hard disk to my windows vista laptop. - Ther user manual is useless. So I say it is a great product with a lot of potential. I recommend it.
