Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Len

It was the reviews of this lens here at Amazon that made me go for it but i must say, i had my apprehensions and thought probably those reviews were biased in one way or the other but the moment i mounted it on my CANON XTI, was astonished with the colour quality, the sharpness and the speed of focus this thing has. In low light conditions, when you get below 1/15 ( even with IS ) at 200mm end, you just cannot avoid the shakes but then, this was already advertised by the manufacturers. As for results above this, each time you'd take a picture, you'd thank yourself a million times for going for the huge payment. I dont test stuff in the lab but on my pc, the results had No CA at all and the least of vignetting even at 200mm. I would recommend it to everyone going for a canon lens in 70-200mm range and if he is willing to pay the amount.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite lens   December 4, 2008

I highly recommend this lens. It surprised me when it arrived that it's so small and light (I'm comparing to the EF 24-70 f2.8 L and the EF 300 f4 L). It internally focuses so there is no change in length throughout the zoom range. It's extremely sharp wide open - I've used it both for close-ups with an extension tube and for more distant shots. Got my first decent close-up of a hummingbird. The IS works so well it's hard to distinguish from shots on the tripod - it really does give you an extra stop or two hand-holding the camera. This is pretty much state of the art in lens design. If you're looking for a lens in this range, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM Lens   December 3, 2008
The Canon 70-200mm f4 L IS USM is a great lens. It's pricey but it provides great quality images. The lens is part of Canon's L line up which is a better built product.

The lens is light-weight and provides a nice zoom lentgh to get you much closer to the subject you are shooting. The IS works very well. With the greatest aperture value of f4 it isn't the best in low light, but that is not one of my concerns, it shoots great outdoors or indoors with enough light. The IS helps out some here also. It's the biggest lens I have owned but it still fits nice in a camera bag and isn't too heavy to carry around with other lenses.

The only thing I wish this lens came with was a tripod mount. I mounted the camera and lens on a tripod connected to the camera however and it held up fine. It is light enough it will not bow the whole set up down, but I wouldn't suggest long use like this. I highly recommend this lens for any Canon DSLR.

I spent a lot of time doing research trying to decide which zoom lens to get and decided to spend the extra money for this one and the results have been well worth it, very fast, accurate auto-focus, IS works very well, Image quality is superb. This has been regarded as one of Canon's best lenses. I'm using it with my 30D

5 out of 5 stars Super SHARP & AMAZING Image Quality   November 28, 2008

I am a pet photographer and absolutely adore this lens. It is significantly smaller and lighter than the 70-200 f2.8 IS, which is very important to me, and many argue that the image quality is far superior. I opted to forego the extra stops for the portability, and since I use this lens for shooting in natural light, highly doubt I will miss them. I owned the 70-200 f4 NON IS before this lens, but think this version is far superior in both image quality, and functionality. I use both a 20D and 40D, with 10-22, 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 100 2.8 Macro, 24-105 f4 IS, and this 70-200 f4 IS, and feel it is probably THE sharpest lens I own. I highly recommend it!
