Worked nicely for two weeks.... January 6, 2009 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very happy when I received the Zenith DTT901 Converter Box and it worked perfectly for two weeks. We had an accident on our road which shut down the electric, the box was on a power strip with the TV and DVD, they both survived. The box did not....I called Zenith and they told me that the box should have survived and that the electric was not the problem, they walked through steps to restore the menu, but nothing worked. They were very quick to say we have stickers to send you and just return and we will send you a new one. They were very quick to suggest switching it out which was nice, but still a hassle. I did wonder though, that they were so fast to say just send it back and we will send a new one, led me to believe they may just be use to this particular problem. I am waiting on the new one.
DTT901 + Antennas Direct DB2 Antenna = Perfect Picture January 4, 2009 We have a 54" Panasonic rear projection television from 2004 that requires a digital converter. I put up the DB2 antenna, but was waiting on the government coupon before I bought the converter. The antenna worked pretty well, but we only got four channels, at the bottom end of the range, but analog was far from perfect. This model was rated pretty good on Consumer Reports, which was why we selected it. Once we hooked up this model, the picture was perfect and we were able to see 28 channels. Its pretty much plug and play. The only downside, which I think is common for all the units is the remote. It seems to have a problem turning on the unit and feels chintzy. I am looking into a universal remote to replace it and the others.
Excellent 8-VSB Reciever Box January 4, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had the chance to use several different 8-VSB/ATSC "Converter Boxes" such as this one and this out performed them all for features and user friendliness as well as having good signal sensitivity. I didn't like the limited Electronic Program Guide as much as the extended one found on another box, but I loved the audio, subtitle, closed caption, and per-channel zoom feature on the remote, as well as the ability to hear an audible signal alarm tone as I adjust the antenna. This type of audible signal meter is CRUCIAL to adjusting an antenna that is above the TV or in a location where the TV can not be viewed. My favorite feature of this box has to be that I can turn it on and change the channel from the front of the box (without remote control). This feature seems like a standard no-brainer but it is far less common than you might think on other boxes. Definately get the DTT901 if you want a good reciever for 8-VSB on an NTSC TV set. The only 8-VSB reciever I like more than this is the HD-Homerun (for use with a PC).
government DTV coupon might not work on Amazon for this box or others December 31, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My valid DTV coupon was repeatedly deemed invalid and refused by Amazon.com -- just wanted to note that I took it to a local vendor and it was immediately accepted -- don't hassle with the government phone number Amazon gives you in their email -- just use the coupon elsewhere.
Can't find any channels. December 30, 2008 I've made sure that I've plugged everything correctly, but it doesn't find any channels after auto tuning. I came to a conclusion that I also need a "special" antenna to receive any signal. And they never talk much on TV about having to buy a different antenna in addition to the box. It's so frustrating!
